RUN Representing Red Squirrels at 'Stand Up For Nature' Demonstration

On Thursday 4^th June, Restoring Upland Nature proudly joined the ‘Stand Up For Nature’ demonstration outside the Scottish Parliament, proudly representing the Red Squirrel Recovery Network and the communities working to protect Scotland’s native species. It was a lively gathering of nature organisations, volunteers and supporters who all share a commitment to safeguarding the country’s natural heritage.

RUN’s presence certainly didn’t go unnoticed — thanks to Hazel, our giant red squirrel, who brought plenty of smiles and photos. Hazel helped draw attention to the challenges facing red squirrels and the importance of conservation throughout the south of Scotland.

Being part of this event gave us the opportunity to highlight the work happening on the ground through the Red Squirrel Recovery Network: from habitat improvements and community engagement to monitoring, and volunteer – led grey squirrel control. It was inspiring to stand alongside so many passionate people and organisations, all joined because we believe in a healthier, more resilient future for Scotland’s wildlife.

We were proud to be there representing red squirrels, and enjoyed having meaningful conversations about nature.
