How you can help
RUN, is working with communities, landowners, land-managers, other wildlife organisations and many other stakeholders to ensure Golden Eagles and Red Squirrels thrive across our working and wild landscapes.
We do need your help to ensure these and other iconic species and habitats flourish for current and future generations to enjoy.
Please help RUN support the restoration of iconic wildlife and the special places on which they depend.

Take Action for Golden Eagles
Golden eagles were persecuted for centuries across the UK. Thankfully, the tide is changing and people are recognising their value, both for their innate beauty but also for their importance as apex predators contributing to a healthy balanced ecosystem.
There are many ways that you can help support and protect golden eagles:
-
Support our Conservation Work by Volunteering or Donating to our work to reinforce populations of golden eagles in southern Scotland and the reintroduction of golden eagles in northern England.
-
Report Wildlife Crime - Golden eagles are fully protected by Law and yet still suffer from illegal persecution. If you see any suspicious activity near golden eagle sites please report it to the police and to the RSPB Investigation Team.
-
Lend support for Habitat Restoration - Golden eagles need healthy habitats to thrive. Support initiatives that are working to reduce heavy grazing by sheep and deer, and support native woodland regeneration.
-
Respect Nesting Areas - these birds are very sensitive to disturbance, so please keep a good distance from their nests, keep dogs under control and stick to footpaths, particularly during the breeding season (January to August).
Take Action for Red Squirrels
If you live in, or are visiting southern Scotland, there are numerous ways you can help red squirrels.
This list is just a starting point of how you can help!
-
REPORT any squirrels you see, whether red or grey, dead or alive. All squirrel sightings seen anywhere in Scotland can be reported on the Saving Scotland's Red Squirrels website
-
VOLUNTEER with your local Red Squirrel Group. They will be really pleased to hear from you and let you know how you can help red squirrels in your local area
-
DONATE small or large donations are critical to the survival of these Red Squirrel Groups who are often run by a handful of committed people
-
HOLD A FUNDRAISING EVENT OR GIVE A TALK to your local community group or school. The Red Squirrel Groups will be happy to provide you with materials for such an event.
-
HOST A GREY SQUIRREL TRAP IN YOUR GARDEN: Contact us or your local Red Squirrel Group for equipment and guidance.
-
BECOME A RED SQUIRREL GUARDIAN: be an extra pair of eyes and ears for your local red squirrels, if you are aware of trees being felled or cleared during the red squirrel breeding season or a busy road with lots of red squirrel casualties please report these to your local Red Squirrel Group or contact us.
